The EU LVD Directive 2006/95/EC is updated to 2014/35/EU
The new EU LVD Directive 2014/35/EU was published on OJ (L96) on March 29, 2014, replacing the old LVD Directive 2006/95/EC to meet the requirements of NLF (New Legislative Framework).
Effective time:
2014/35/EU must be implemented after April 20, 2016, and all EU member states must be converted into national laws before April 19, 2016.
Electrical products that comply with the old directive can continue to be placed on the EU market until April 19, 2016.
Compared with the old directive, the main changes of the new directive include:
1. Added Chapter 2 (Obligations of Economic Operators)
1.1 Clarified the obligations of the manufacturer or importer.
1.2 The manufacturer shall ensure that the product is marked with the model, batch or serial number or other identifiable elements, or if this is not possible, it shall be marked on the packaging or accompanying documents.
1.3 The manufacturer/importer should display the manufacturer/importer's name, registered brand name or trademark sign and postal address on the product; or if it is not possible, it should be marked on the packaging or accompanying documents. The address should be a single location.
2. Appendix I
In addition to the protection of personnel/property, product design also considers the protection of domestic animals.
3. Appendix II
The newly-added exemption clause is “customized evaluation equipment used by professionals only for R&D purposes as R&D purposes”.
4. Appendix III (Internal Product Control)
The manufacturer’s technical documentation needs to add additional product risk assessment documents.
5. Requirements for conformity assessment procedures
The harmonized standards published on OJ (L96) should be adopted first, followed by the IEC standard. If there is no IEC standard, the appropriate national standard can be adopted.
